Pianist and composer, Jeff Cohen (born in Baltimore) pursues a career that blends repertoires and genres that are usually kept separate. He performs with numerous artists such as Roberto Alagna, June Anderson, Cecilia Bartoli, Yann Beuron, Jane Birkin, Tassis Christoyannis, Karine Deshayes, Elsa Dreisig, Jean-Paul Fouchécourt, Véronique Gens, Isabelle Georges, Angela Gheorghiu, Ivry Gitlis, Ida Haendel, Sumi Jo, Aleksandra Kurzak, Steve Lacy, François Le Roux, Noël Lee, Ute Lemper, Blanca Li, Mady Mesplé, Didier Sandre…

He has recorded several albums, including the complete songs of R. Hahn, Lalo, Saint-Saëns, Gounod, and Godard with T. Christoyannis for the Palazetto Bru-Zane; a live recital at La Scala with A. Gheorghiu; songs by Duparc, Fauré, Hahn, Gounod, and Loeffler with F. Le Roux; Mozart lieder on fortepiano with V. Dietschy; works by Vieuxtemps and sonatas by Mendelssohn and Hummel for viola and piano with P. Lénert; cabaret songs by K. Weill with U. Lemper; songs by Korngold with I. Georges; and fado songs with Luisa Cruz.
He has worked as a répétiteur on opera recordings with conductors such as Bertrand de Billy, Mark Elder, Christopher Hogwood, John Nelson, Michel Plasson, and Georg Solti.
He served as répétiteur at the Opéra de la Monnaie in Brussels, professor at the École d’Art Lyrique de l’Opéra de Paris, musical director at the Théâtre du Châtelet, and advisor to the Bibliothèque nationale de France for a series of concerts on French art song.

Jeff Cohen conducted the orchestra for The Threepenny Opera directed by G. Strehler at the Théâtre du Châtelet, assisted M.-W. Chung for Otello at the Opéra de la Bastille, and collaborated with P. Chéreau on Hamlet and Lucio Silla. He performed in Impressions de Pelléas by P. Brook and alongside F. Ardant in Masterclass, directed by R. Polanski. He served as musical studies director for K. Weill’s Street Scene with the Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de la Bastille. He toured with choreographer B. Li in her show Le Jardin des délices.
Jeff Cohen studied piano with Leon Fleisher, Reine Gianoli, and Peter Feuchtwanger. He currently lives in Paris, where he is a professor of Lied and French art song at the Conservatoire National.
He composes music for stage and film (N. Lvovsky, C. Klapisch, C. Serreau, among others). He conceived and hosted a children’s television program, Jeff d’orchestre, on French television.
Jeff Cohen was appointed Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres in 2019.
